Burnley Vs Tottenham Is Postponed Due To Heavy Snowfall

2 min read

Burnley Vs Tottenham was due to start at 14:00 GMT at Turf Moor, but it had to be postponed an hour before kick-off because of extreme snowfall.

Despite several attempts, they failed to make the pitch playable. The match was scheduled to start at 14:00 GMT but was called off at 13:10.

The decision to postpone the match was made by referee Peter Bankes. He made this decision just 50 minutes before the kick-off.

According to Peter Bankes, they tried everything to clear the pitch and make it suitable for playing. But within 10 minutes of cleaning, the pitch was again covered with snow. The only best thing to do was to postpone the match.

Sean Dyche, manager of Burnley mentioned that there was heavy snowfall and it was falling quickly.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte said that they are upset about postponing the match. He said that they were ready to play, but didn’t get the chance to get to the field. But at the same time, he believes that Premier League did the right thing by calling off the game as the situation was not favourable for the players as well as the fans.

He also added that conditions like this are not ideal for playing football. Football is a fun game and it should be played that way. But in such a situation, it is not possible to play nicely. He also mentioned that it can be risky for the players.

The snowfall started around 11 am. Despite the effort made by 40 people shovelling snow, they couldn’t make the pitch playable for the players. All their efforts were outweighed by heavy snowfall.

Bankes waited for Antonio Conte to arrive at Turf Moor before a decision could be made. Both the managers consulted about the situation and agreed on the decision of postponing the match. This suggestion was proposed by Bankes.

Later Bankes explained the reason behind his decision. He said that they had asked the club officials to clean the snow off the pitch, but within 10 minutes of clearing the pitch got covered again.

He mentioned that they have tried every possible thing to make things work, but failed. The snowfall was heavy and gathering on the football pitch quickly. In such a situation, it was not possible to start a match.

He also added that the safety of the players is their primary focus. If they had to stop the game every 15 minutes, it wouldn’t have been good for the audience.

The managers of both the teams agreed to postpone the match.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche mentioned to Sky Sports that the pitch re-covers every time they sweep it.

The referee explained that they had to put the safety of the players first as the pitch was not safe for them to play.

Conte said that they will surely exploit the situation as they have two important games against Norwich and Brentford. He said that it will give them more time to prepare.
