Sport in Society Announces 2008 Roster for the True Heroes of Sport Awards Gala

(11-22-08) BOSTON, MASS. –Sport in Society at Northeastern University will proudly host the 14th annual True Heroes of Sport Awards Gala on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass. Sport in Society is honored to announce that Tommie Smith and John Carlos will be this year’s Hall of Fame Inductees. Greg Zaff will be presented with the Lenny Zakim New England Hero Award and Kathy Delaney-Smith will receive the Selma Black New England Hero Award. Jessica Murray from Weymouth High School will be presented with the Kevin W. Fitzgerald Giving Back Award. The Dick Schaap Excellence in Sports Journalism Awards print category will be presented to Brad Wolverton and Paul Fain from The Chronicle of Higher Education while the broadcast category will be presented toBryant Gumbel from HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel”.
