Dave Hoffman
Training Specialist
Dave Hoffman is a Training and Outreach Specialist in the Violence Prevention and Diversity (VPD) department. As a member of the VPD team, Dave is responsible for conducting trainings on issues regarding gender violence, diversity awareness, conflict resolution and disabilities in sport.
Dave has been working with area youth for several years in a few different capacities. From 1999 to 2001 he was the assistant director of a Newton Park and Recreation Department summer sports program. During the summer of 2001 and 2002, Hoffman was an assistant coach at the A Step Ahead basketball camp where he taught kids of all ages basketball skills while emphasizing work ethic, discipline and team-work. In the summer of 2003, using this same philosophy, he co-directed To The Hoop basketball camp in Newton, MA. After graduating from college, Hoffman worked in the Newton Public schools as an after-school instructor for a year. During this time, he also served as the Executive Director/coach of a coed national level AAU program.
Dave grew up in Brookline, MA and attended Beaver Country Day School. After high school, he went to Union College in Schenectady, NY where he earned a Bachelor�s Degree in Political Science.
In high school, Dave played varsity soccer, basketball and baseball for four years and eventually was recruited to play basketball at Union College. In college, he was a member of the 2001-2002 men�s basketball team which won the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) regular and post season championships as well as set a school record in wins, advancing to the second round of the NCAA division III tournament. He remains involved in basketball as a high school level coach and a �die-hard� Boston Celtics fan.
