David Kay's involvement with Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society began with an internship in the summer of 1994. Currently, Kay is an Outreach Specialist for the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program. Kay works with the MVP team, facilitating gender violence prevention workshops in Massachusetts high schools and colleges. The workshops are designed to raise awareness on the issue of gender violence and encourage young men and women to become active bystanders empowered to confront sexist and abusive behavior. In 1995, David became a member of Sport in Society's Athletes in Service to America, AmeriCorps program. During his year of service as a Corps member, Kay facilitated over seventy conflict resolution, gender violence, and diversity workshops in the Boston Public School System. Kay worked as a research assistant, participating in writing and editing the 1994 Racial Report Card. A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Kay graduated from Clark University where he majored in History. While there, David was the recipient of the H. Donaldson Jordan Award for the best essay on a historical topic. Kay played two years of varsity basketball at Clark before a serious knee injury ended his career. |
