MVP Training Specialist
Zachary Falconer is a Training Specialist for the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program; a program at Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society and the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS).
The multi-racial, mixed gender MVP Program is the first large-scale attempt to enlist high school, collegiate and professional athletes in the fight against all forms of men's violence against women.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Organizational Communications from Northeastern University (NU) and plans on furthering his education in graduate school.
At NU was a co-captain of the football team during his senior year and a three time All-Atlantic-10 selection at outside linebacker. He was also voted the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) in his senior year.
In the spring of 2000 he was signed by the Oakland Raiders.
After a brief stint with the Raiders, Falconer enrolled in the Athletes In Service to America (AIS) Program, an Americorp Program operated through Sport in Society.
The AIS program recruits former college athletes to volunteer their time in inner-city school settings in a student support role. It was through this program that he volunteered his time at the McKinley Technical High School, one of three restraint high schools in Boston. Falconer's role at McKinley included teaching and counseling at risk youth.
In addition, he volunteered his time overseeing homework groups at Mission Safe, an after-school program in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston.
Falconer was hired as a Training Specialist in January of 2001. He works mainly in the high schools of Massachusetts, facilitating discussions on men's violence against women. However, periodically he is called upon to go abroad and assist in national initiatives.
