Marissa Mezzanotte

Marissa Mezzanotte is a training specialist for the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program at Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society where she facilitates gender violence prevention workshops in Massachusetts high schools and colleges nationwide. She is the Coordinator of MVP's female component, and is dedicated to educating and empowering young women and men to help stop men's violence against women. MVP motivates student-athletes and student leaders to play a central role in solving problems that have historically been considered "women's issues": rape, battering, and sexual harassment.

A native of Blairstown, NJ, Marissa attended Boston College where she played varsity basketball for 4 years and graduated with honors in 1993. While at BC she was selected as a three-time Big East Academic All-Star, was voted co-captain her senior year, received the Outstanding Senior Award and the Orrie Scarminach Scholarship, given to a deserving student-athlete for graduate studies.

Mezzanotte's post-collegiate career took her to Treorchy, Wales, where she played professionally for the Rhondda Rebels, the only Welsh team competing in the First Division of the English League. During this time, Mezzanotte organized and conducted basketball skills clinics for local youth.

In 1995, Mezzanotte began an internship in East Meadow, New York, at the Women's Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing sports and fitness opportunities for girls and women. While at the Foundation, Mezzanotte worked in special events and advocacy, and coached St. Brigid's girls' CYO basketball team as a volunteer.

In 1996, she returned to Boston College to pursue her Master's Degree in Secondary Education where her graduate research focused on gender studies and men's violence against women. During this time, Mezzanotte also served as assistant women's basketball coach at Babson College for two years.

Mezzanotte currently resides in Dedham, MA and enjoys playing basketball, mountain biking, and reading.
