Urban Youth Sports Co-Director Art Taylor has been a program leader at the Center for the Study of Sport in Society for the past 13 years. In that time he helped develop Project TEAMWORK, the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program, and AmeriCorps' Athletes in Service to America. Taylor also served as educational director for the movie Hoop Dreams. In 1996, he created Urban Youth Sports as a vehicle for translating Sport in Society's mission into direct services for young people in Boston and other urban areas. Urban Youth Sports impact has been broadened by the Boston Youth Sports Congress, which Taylor and Kevin Fitzgerald co-founded with Boston's Mayor Menino. For more than 20 years Taylor has worked with children and youth as a Sunday school teacher and a coach |
