Phunk Phenomenon, the official dancers of the Boston Celtics, donned Celtics Jerseys to Perform at the First Double Dutch Demonstration of the Season
(11-2-08) Boston, Mass. - Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center was booming with hip-hop beats as jumpers in the Double Dutch League of Massachusetts were treated to a special performance by the Phunk Phenomenon at their season kick-off demonstration and workshop on Sunday, Nov. 2.
The Beantown Jumpers, Rope Burners-A.K.A. Jumpers, S.W.I.R.L.S., Jump Mode, and Lewenberg School were among the teams to demonstrate the technical elements of Double Dutch including compulsory, speed, and freestyle. More than 200 children were invited to participate in the demonstration by practicing jumping at the conclusion of the demonstration. Sport in Society�s Fitz Urban Youth Sports in collaboration with the Red Auerbach Youth Foundation sponsored the demonstration.
More than 400 Boston youths benefit from the low-cost, high intensity sport of Double Dutch due to the Double Dutch League of Massachusetts (DDLM). Through the DDLM children of all ages and backgrounds are given the opportunity to attend a demonstration, participate in a mini-camp, and compete in two tournaments every year. The DDLM has had several teams compete, with great success, in world competitions. Expanding its reach throughout Massachusetts the DDLM continues to welcome new coaches and teams.
