About Open Space Technology

What is OST and Why Are We Using It?

Open Space Technology (OST) is one way to enable all kinds of people, in any kind of organization, to create inspired meetings and events utilizing the expertise and interest of all individuals.

OST participants create and manage their own agenda of parallel working sessions around a central theme of strategic importance. OST enables groups of any size to address complex, important issues and achieve meaningful results quickly.

OST is at its best where more traditional meeting formats fail: when there is conflict, complexity, diversity of thought or people, and short decision times. It has been used in widely diverse settings, from designing aircraft doors at a large aircraft manufacturing company to engaging street kids in defining a sustainable jobs program.

The core feature of Open Space is "the invitation to take responsibility for discussing your passion." When participants do so, the needs of both the individual and the collective are supposedly met.

Why Are We Using It?

Sport and Social Change is a rapidly developing movement with a variety of stakeholders. Discovering the various points of intersection between sport and pertinent social issues seems a limitless endeavor.

In order to capture the vastness of this field S the Power of Sport Summit will not be limited to Sport in Society's current research projects. Instead, summit participants will have the opportunity to add their unique knowledge and expertise to the discussion in addition to listening to and learning from some of the fields most progressive scholars. Doing so allows unforeseen, yet pertinent, topics and ideas to emerge and move the discussion around sport and social change forward.
