AmeriCorps resources for members and alumni: Athletes in Service Newsletters (PDF) • Spring 2003 Events National Training Event Every year the National Office coordinates an annual National Training Event for all corps members and staff. National Training is traditionally held at the beginning of the service year and all AIS staff and members converge at one of our regional operating sites for the five-day event. The main purpose of National Training is to kick off the service year and foster the mission of AIS of service, teamwork and collaboration. The event highlights the national scope of the program and gives members a chance to get to know other corps members from around the country. Components of the event are geared toward providing supplemental training components relating to direct service in the schools. Additionally, elements include Civics training, performing a community service event, listening to motivational speakers and participating in many teambuilding activities. A highlight of the National Training Event is a competitive activity, since the AIS program is comprised of collegiate student-athletes, and has become one of the favorite elements of National Training. We put all members in mixed teams through rigorous, but fun, physical challenges. Useful Web sites AmeriCorps AmeriCorps Members Corporation for National and Community Service |
