Track and Field
Joshua is
a junior at the University of Illinois. He began competing in 1992 as
a member of the Bennett Blazers wheelchair sport team. On this team, he
was an annual competitor in the Junior Wheelchair Nationals, competing
in track and field events, swimming, and table tennis. In August 2001
he was a member of the USA Wheelchair Basketball team that had a third
place finish at the 22-and-under Gold Cup in Blumeneau, Brazil.
Throughout 2001 and 2002, Joshua competed in many National Junior Wheelchair
Basketball Championships and other events. In 2002 he was awarded the
Junior Athlete of the Year from the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
His first
place finish in the Chicago Marathon in October 2003 precipitated his
proceeding accomplishments. In March of 2004, he finished tenth overall
in the Los Angeles Marathon. He was also the first American to finish.
One month later, he had an 11th place finish in the Boston Marathon. A
month after that he was selected for the 2004 USA Racing Team for the
100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and the marathon events. In between all of these
events, Joshua competes on the University of Illinois Wheelchair Basketball
Team and the Racing Team. |
