NCAA Student-Athlete Disability Advisory Group

NCAA News Article - "Inclusion Applies to Disabled Athletes, Too"


Mission

The Student-Athlete Disability Advisory Group provides support, facilitates education, and advocates inclusion and acceptance of student-athletes with disabilities within the collegiate sports experience.

Goals

1. Foster communication among and between student-athlete disability-related areas:

a. Learning Disability
b. Deaf/Hearing Impaired
c. Physical Disability
d. Mental Illness
e. Athletes in Disability Sport
f. Sports Medicine
g. Disability Support Services


2. Examine strategies for increased recognition, support and programming for student-athletes with disabilities competing in competitive sports.

Objectives:

a. Recognize and highlight positive efforts and activities within the NCAA and NCAA schools.

b. Serve as resource to the NCAA on issues concerning student-athletes with disabilities.


3. Promote a positive competitive environment for student-athletes with disabilities.

Objectives:

a. Organize education for NCAA Athletic Directors and Coaches.

b. Encourage increased support systems for student-athletes with disabilities.


4. Facilitate advocacy and action-oriented proposals concerning student-athletes with disabilities.

Objectives:

a. Interface with Diversity, Student-Athlete Advisory, and Sports Medicine Committees within the NCAA.
