PETER
P. ROBY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF
NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY'S CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF SPORT IN SOCIETY
BOSTON, Mass.
Effective July 1, 2002, Mr.
Peter P. Roby will serve as the new director of Northeastern
University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society. Roby succeeds
Sport in Society founder Richard E. Lapchick
who continues to serve as Director Emeritus after serving as director
for Sport in Society's first 17 years.

feel there is no one more qualified to lead Sport in Society into
a new era than Peter Roby,"
said Lapchick. "His experience, enthusiasm,
passion and vision for our values are a remarkable fit. Peter's
leadership, combined with the talents of (Senior Associate Director)
Allyce Najimy, and the talented and
our dedicated staff, will no doubt lead Sport in Society to even
greater heights as The Center continues its work to make this a
more peaceful and understanding world."
Roby, formerly
vice president of U.S. marketing for Reebok International brings
20+ years of experience in athletics and marketing toSport
in Society. At Reebok, Roby was responsible for the development
and execution of marketing plans in the United States. He also oversaw
strategic planning, grass roots marketing and sponsorships. Roby
joined Reebok in 1991, and held the positions of group director
of US brand marketing there, as well as director of key account
marketing and director of US sports marketing.

has an extensive record of experience and accomplishment in the
fields of athletics and marketing," said Richard
M. Freeland, Northeastern University President. "He
will provide critical leadership and management of the Center and
help continue the good work that the team has made thus far."

Sport in Society

Before
joining Reebok, Roby served six seasons as head basketball coach
for Harvard University and three years as Harvard's assistant basketball
coach. Prior to joining Harvard, Roby was the assistant coach at
Stanford University, Dartmouth College and the U.S. Military Academy
in West Point, New York.
Roby
is a 1979 graduate of Dartmouth College where he was co-captain
of the basketball team and earned a B.A. in Government.

sport and its relation to society, and to develop programs that
identify problems, offer solutions, and promote the benefits of
sport." said Roby.
Roby succeeds
Sport in Society founder Dr.
Richard E. Lapchick as director. Lapchick was appointed Director
Emeritus of Sport in Society in August of 2001. Lapchick
directed the Center for more than 17 years and helped create landmark
programs for young people that promote team building, human and
civil rights, and racial equality.
