National Student-Athlete Day

(Celebrated nationally on April 6)

dart Overview

The year 2001 marked the 14th annual celebration of National Student-Athlete Day (NSAD) on April 6. NSAD witnessed another successful year of community service and outreach by our student-athletes while maintaining their grades as well as succeeding on their respective playing fields.

Last year, NCAS member colleges and universities from all 50 states took the time to acknowledge their student-athletes' outstanding accomplishments.

In 2000, the NCAS saw over 275,000 student-athletes honored for their outstanding achievements.

dart Background

NSAD was established in 1987 to acknowledge the accomplishments of student-athletes in the classroom, on the playing field and in their communities.

It is also a time to recognize the parents, teachers, coaches and school systems that make it possible for young people to find the balance among academics, athletics and life pursuits.

NSAD honors student-athletes who have earned a grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and who have been committed to making a difference in society by performing outreach and community service.

dart NSAD Logo

NSAD logoIn 2001, the NCAS has embarked on a new endeavor to promote student-athletes and their outstanding accomplishments. For its 14th year, the NCAS unveiled a new official NSAD logo. The logo was included in all marketing packets sent to every college and university nationwide. With its first-ever logo and marketing materials, NSAD may look like a new event, but honoring outstanding student-athletes nationwide remains the goal of this wonderful day.

dart Coordination

NSAD Events are coordinationed nationw-wide by their respectives colleges and universities. National NSAD events are coordinated by Suzi Katz, the southern regional office director of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) at the University of Central Florida.
