Human Rights Squad Pledge:

As a Project TEAMWORK Human Rights Squad member,

I pledge to respect all people, to speak out against
prejudice and discrimination,

to take individual responsibility for my actions,
and to solve problems nonviolently.

I pledge to work as part of the TEAM to create positive social change.


Human Rights Squads
Human Rights Squad consist of students who have completed Project TEAMWORK's 6-8 hour training session and have completed at least two (2) projecst dealing with violence prevention or the elimination of prejudice.

As a HRS member, student become part of a larger network that includes over 30 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

All HRS members are invited to attend our annual Human Rights Squad Forum at Northeastern University. and complete for the following awards:

  • Darryl Williams Award - High School category
    Awarded to the school which best exemplifies the values of Project TEAMWORK.

  • Darryl Williams Award - Middle School category
    Awarded to the school which best exemplifies the values of Project TEAMWORK.

  • Human Rights Leadership Award - Student category
    Awarded to the student who performs above and beyond.

  • Human Rights Leadership Award - Adult category
    Awarded to the adult who best exemplifies the values of Project TEAMWORK.

Examples of Human Rights Squads Projects

  • High School students trained Middle School students with PTW curriculum.
  • Students held a multicultural dinner and program involving food and dance from various nations.
  • Participated in the Increase the Peace Week to promote non-violence and conflict resolution.
  • Participated in Unity Day at their schools.
  • Participated in the Walk for Hunger.
  • Placed posters around their schools advocating diversity sensitivity and conflict resolution.
  • Painted school bathroom walls after they were vandalized with negative racial remarks.

Human Rights Squad Requirements

  • Complete at least six hours of diversity and conflict resolution training.
  • Meet at least once a month to plan and work on projects or participate in additional trainings.
  • Complete at least two HRS projects during the school year that relate to the issues discussed in the trainings.
  • Involve the youth from their school or community in at least one project.
  • Have regular contact with their Project TEAMWORK staff person.
  • Attend Project TEAMWORK�s Annual Human Rights Squad Forum.

Project TEAMWORK's Promise

  • Provide six (6) hours of diversity and conflict resolution training to all HRS members.
  • Be accessible to HRS members to help fulfill the HRS commitments listed on the next page.
  • Attend HRS meetings regularly and develop a relationship with each school and its students.
  • Make presentations and assist in recruiting new squad members as needed.
  • Work with school administration and faculty in addressing multi-cultural concerns and conflict reduction issues.
