Tracey Britton
Manager, Urban Youth Sports - Training and Outreach
Tracey Britton is the Manager of Training and Outreach for Urban Youth Sports. In this capacity Tracey administers the Double Dutch League of Massachusetts (DDLM) initiatives as well as Jr. Coaches Academy programming & curriculum. Working closely with PAH team members she facilitates the coordination of new initiatives while researching the prospects for neighborhood activity and growth.
Britton has been employed by Sport in Society since March 2005 but began her relationship with the center when she obtained certification from the Mentors in Violence Prevention Institute for Gender Violence Prevention and Education in January of 2005. While cross training with Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) and Project Teamwork (PTW), Britton acts as a trainer within the SEC Conference, additional colleges and universities and school aged youth.
During her time at Sport in Society, Britton has organized demonstrations, workshops and competition for the DDLM. She started and maintains the Western Massachusetts double dutch expansion by disseminating information, recruiting & connecting interested parties and providing support for the development of new teams in that area. Acting as Assistant Director for the Sports for Life Summer Camp, Tracey managed the Life Skills curriculum as well as various administrative duties related to camp function.
Britton�s most recent involvement with sport includes coaching Women�s soccer at Syracuse University from 2001-2003, Hobart & William Smith Colleges in 2000 and Ithaca College in 1999. Collegiate coaching experience provides an applicable skill set related to the PAH Volunteer Initiative with Husky athletes at Northeastern University. Coaching the highest level athlete as well as all levels of youth inspired the creation of the Jr. Coaches Academy. This program promotes the empowerment of teens to take charge of youth sport culture in their communities. Britton also volunteered at Bridge Over Troubled Waters (transitional program for homeless youth) in Boston, organizing alternative exercise and sport activities for teenage residents.
Britton attended the University at Buffalo where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1999) in Psychology, Health & Human Services (concentration in Early Childhood Development), and minor in Sociology. At the same time she completed the coursework requirements for the New York State youth coaching certification. Britton will receive her Master of Science Degree in Exercise & Sport Sciences (concentration in Sport Psychology) from Ithaca College in August 2006. In October 2005 Britton graduated from Boston Public Health Commission�s Community Health Education Certification (CHEC). CHEC is an intensive set of health modules and workshops related to outreach and the mission of �meeting people where they are.�
In addition to coaching soccer Britton carries with her a passion to compete. Most recently playing in the United Soccer Leagues W-League as a member of the Hampton Roads Piranhas based out of Virginia Beach. Britton was previously involved with the league for five years as a member of the Rochester Ravens of New York. The W-League remains the top women�s league in existence, as the WUSA works towards a possible re-launch. Britton played four years of Division I soccer for the University at Buffalo acting as team captain throughout her junior and senior years.
