Jennifer Welch
Senior Training Specialist

Jennifer Welch is a Senior Training and Outreach Specialist at the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University. Jennifer works with the Violence Prevention and Diversity (VPD) team, training students and adults about various social awareness issues, such as diversity, conflict resolution, gender violence awareness, and the inclusion of disabled athletes.

Jennifer has been at Sport in Society since 2002, beginning as an Outreach Specialist for the Project TEAMWORK (PTW) program. PTW works with middle, high school and college aged students, educating and encouraging them to combat all forms of discrimination and teach practical conflict resolution skills.

Prior to working at Sport in Society, Jennifer was a Teacher�s Assistant at the McKinley South End Academy that serves students with emotional, behavioral and learning needs. While assisting with daily academic curriculum, Jennifer also provided support and counseling to her students about making positive, healthy choices in their lives.

After graduating from college, Jennifer came to Boston and worked with an Americorps funded program called Athletes in Service to America. All members were former collegiate athletes that helped serve students in the Boston Public Schools and community. That year, she volunteered 1700 hours of service through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, and coordinating after school activities.

Jennifer graduated from the University of Vermont in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and a minor in Sociology. While in college, Jennifer spent a semester abroad studying at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia. Currently, she is attending Northeastern University to pursue a Masters Degree in Sports Leadership

Jennifer started her athletic career as a competitive figure skater and traveled all over the United States. She spent much of her time training at the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., as well as Denver, CO., Cape Cod and Boston, MA. After hanging up her figure skates in high school, she decided to stay in the rink, and try Ice Hockey. Jennifer played hockey at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT. She was also a member of the Women�s Ice Hockey Team at the University of Vermont.
