Kevin
J. Matthews is the Director of External Affairs of Northeastern
University's Center for the Study
of Sport in Society which
manages press relations, print and web publications.He
also manages collaborations between Sport in Society and
other individuals and organizations.
Matthews
been quoted in publications such as tthe New York Times,
the International Herald Tribune, the Toronto Sun, the Ottawa
Sun, the Christian Science Monitor, the Miami Herald, the
Hartford Courant, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, the
Boston Herald, ABCNews.com, and the Sports Business News.
He has appeared on CNBC, WFXT-TV (Fox 25), and NECN (New
England Cable News channel).
Matthews
also serves as the Director of the National Consortium for
Academics and Sports (NCAS) Northeast
Regional Office. (1998-present)
Previous Experience
Previously,
Matthews was the Research Director for three editions of
the annual Racial and Gender Report
Card. The internationally recognized publication is
a comprehensive analysis of the hiring practices of women
and people of color in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, WNBA,
and the NCAA and its member institutions.
The
Racial and Gender Report Card has been written about in
Associated Press, USA Today, ESPN, the New York Times, Newsweek,
Sports-Business Journal, the Miami Herald, and cited in
the Journal for Sports Management, and the Journal of Sport
and Social Issues.
Matthews
joined the Center for the Study of Sport in Society in August
of 1997. Matthews has worked for Northeastern University
since 1995 and is also a Northeastern alum. At Sport in
Society, Matthews has also worked as the Community Outreach
Coordinator for the Mentors in Violence
Prevention (MVP) Program and the Teamwork Leadership
Initiative (TLI) Program on the national level.
Matthews
came to Sport in Society from the Northeastern University
Botanical Research Center where he had worked for three
years. Matthews was closely involved with the modernization
program that was undertaken at the Woburn, MA facility.
Previous to that Matthews worked in the horticulture industry
for 10 years.
Education
Matthews
owns a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Management
from Northeastern University.
Matthews
also owns a Non-Profit Management Certificate from Northeastern
University.

He
resides in Sudbury, MA with his wife Prema and his nephew,
Danny.
