Support our Marathon Runners

Boston Marathon sponsor John Hancock has donated five entries to Sport in
Society. The entries will be used by the five people listed below, each of
whom has taken the pledge to raise $3,000 for our organization. Please
consider sponsoring one of them:


Sarah Howard Sarah Howard is an elementary school teacher in Boston, Mass. A 2003 Boston College graduate, she spent two years teaching in the Virgin Islands. She recently returned to B.C. for her master's degree as a reading specialist. While an undergrad she was a scrum-half on the rugby team. A native of Winchester, Mass. she attended Winchester High School, where she was on the swimming and sailing teams. New to the sport of running, she completed the Chicago half-marathon, finishing in just under two hours. Sarah is very excited to run the Boston Marathon in April for Sport in Society and hopes to implement its programs at her school!

Dan Kamyck is a third year marketing major in the College of Business Administration at Northeastern University. He is currently on co-op at Thomson Financial in South Boston. Dan was an accomplished cross-country and track runner in high school, with a personal record of 4 minutes, 41 seconds in the one-mile race. As a freshman at Northeastern, he served the local community in the Jumpstart/Americorps program. Dan is excited to get involved once again, this time with Sport in Society. He is originally from Worcester, Mass.

Tawna Rathe Tawna Rathe graduated from Northeastern University in 1998. While at Northeastern she competed on the gymnastics team. After several years as a broadcast journalist, she recently returned and works in the College of Business Administration in development. The 2007 Boston Marathon will be her first marathon. Tawna says it is a privilege to be running on behalf of Sport in Society. Knowing first-hand the powerful and important role sport can play in the lives of youth; she is 100 percent behind Sport in Society's mission, core values and vision

Scott Steffes Scott Steffes, Iowa State University graduate, has lived in Boston for three years. He currently works as an architect at a firm in Cambridge, Mass. He started running in college and after four marathons and several other races; he can officially say he enjoys it. His first marathon was the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis, Minn. He has run the Boston Marathon the last three years as a bandit. Thanks to Sport in Society, he will finally be able to cross that finish line and proudly put a metal around his neck as a numbered runner. This race he dedicates to his family and friends who mean so very much to him.

Tara Wilcox Tara Wilcox is currently attending Boston College where she is pursuing dual master's of business administration and a master's science and finance degrees. A Rhode Island native, she studied economics at B.C. as an undergraduate. For three years she worked in finance in Boston, Mass. before returning to school. A former dancer and avid yogi, Tara is new to running. She ran a half marathon in Chicago in October and is very excited to be running her first full marathon this spring in Boston and supporting Sport in Society.
