Power of Sport Summit 2009
June 18-19, 2009 Power of Sport Summit: Sport and Social Responsibility
Location: John D. OBryant African American Institute at Northeastern University
Overview
Sport in Societys Power of Sport Summit is an interactive meeting of academics, practitioners and advocates working together to define and address current and emerging issues involving the intersection of sport and social justice.
The objective of the Summit is to generate discussion around current trends, including what's working, what's possible, and what important actions are needed to help advance social justice in and through sport. Each year, experts in the fields of research, education and advocacy unite to celebrate, reinvigorate and advance this very important work.
Sport and Social Responsibility
The theme of the 2009 Power of Sport Summit will focus on the relationship between sport and social responsibility. What role can the sporting community have to enhance the welfare of society? What does it mean to participate in a more socially responsible sporting environment? What are corporations, individuals, organizations, and governments doing to ensure that society at large is utilizing, benefitting and changing in connection with the sporting culture? What actions are needed to enhance and support the intersection of sport and social responsibility?
Call for Proposals
Sport in Society is pleased to invite proposals for workshop presentations at the 2009 Power of Sport Summit.
Because Power of Sport participants are actively engaged in the sport and social change movement, we view all participants as experts in their particular fields. In addition to your participation, we therefore invite you to present your current research, education or advocacy project at the summit. It is our goal to raise awareness, challenge thinking, open dialog and inspire leadership at the summit and that can only be done if those in attendance are able to dialogue, share best practices, and learn new skills with one another.
Submission Information
If you are interested in presenting a 20 minute workshop on a topic related to sport and social responsibility, please send a 250 word abstract to the attention of Meghan Mahoney (617-373-3159; [email protected]) before April 1, 2009.
