America's leading public opinion analysts, Louis and Peter Harris, evaluated the work of AIS and released the results in 1998. Among the findings were: • 49% of students at AIS schools report "very little" school violence in spite of the fact that they were all in poor areas where the crime rates were high. • 82% of students at AIS schools reported the corps members either definitely (53%) or probably (29%) helped them avoid fighting and violence. • 75% of students served said they believed they would be able to use the practical skills taught by corps members. • 58% of students served said it was more likely that they would try to stop boys from being violent against girls as a result of the MVP training. • Academically, 58% of students served reported that corps members either "definitely" (25%) or probably (33%) helped them improve grades. |
