GERMANY:
In March of 2000, the Mentors in Violence Prevention
(MVP) Program staff traveled to United
States Army bases in Germany to deliver special "Train-the-Trainer"
programs for high school student leaders whose parents are
stationed overseas.
The
comprehensive trainings prepared two leadership groups from
Mannheim and Heidelberg American High Schools
to facilitate MVP trainings with middle school students
who also live on the bases.
Select
students at each high school were invited to join the MVP
Program based on their leadership status and ability to
influence peer culture at their schools.
The
thirty (30)student leaders selected from each school dedicated
themselves to working hard and making the trainings a success.
Each group will present the MVP Program to middle school
students this spring.
In addition
to training student leaders, MVP staff also provided awareness
raising training to the faculty and administrators at Mannheim
American High School.
The
trainings continued a relationship between Sport in Society
and the Family Life Development Center at Cornell University.
MVP
staff previously worked with the Family Life Development
Center to provide MVP trainings to the U.S.
Marines Corps at bases worldwide.
Plans
are currently underway for the MVP Program to return to
Germany in September to conduct a "Train-the-Trainer"
program for faculty, administrators and youth service providers
from several different bases.
